As recognised by Occupational Health and Safety, indoor plants are increasingly being used to remove potentially harmful toxins from the workplace as they have the ability to absorb and break down airborne chemicals like formaldehyde, the most commonly found.  Formaldehyde is used in products such as paper towels, tissues, fabrics, carpet backing, floor-coverings, building materials including plywood, chipboard and panelling and is also released by gas cookers. Research shows plant-filled workplaces also contain 50-60 per cent fewer airborne moulds and bacteria, helping to create a healthier and calmer environment.
